The Chronicles Unfold

The Drama Society of S. Thomas’ College staged the musical production The Chronicles of Narnia: The lion, the witch and the wardrobe on the 25th, 26th, 27th, 28th and 29th of May, 2006. It was a spell-binding performance on the whole. The College Hall had been transformed in a most magnificent manner in that the stage had been extended a further six feet, there was a ramp leading almost up to the back of the hall, and a staircase and a ladder had been erected, both leading up to alternative balcony wings. Immaculately designed set-pieces and props served to further enhance the magical backdrop necessary for such a gargantuan dramatic endeavour.

Speaking of the drama, special commendations go out to Dilesh Dias (the witch), Shanil Wijesinha (Aslan), Denham David (Maugrim) and Tarik Jayasuriya (Tumnus), for their commendable acting skills, and character portrayals. Ranshan Gomez (Peter), Shehan Gomez (Susan), Mario Attanayake (Edmund), Dinel Dias and Anushka Samarasinghe (Lucy) are also to be commended.

Furthermore, Arjun De Alwis (Mrs. Beaver), Dilan John (Father Christmas), Malinka Ranasinghe (the dwarf), Andrew Alphonsus (the Professor), Jurinez Shadrach (Mrs. Mc Ready), Chaminda Dias (Leopard), Suranthaka Cabraal (Leopard) and Milindra Kulugammana (Mr. Beaver) played their supporting roles very well.

The singers who were hand picked out of a large number of applicants performed admirably and made sweet music indeed, singing from behind the main platform-extension.

A magical fireworks display rounded off an evening of brilliant entertainment for all ages. The Dram-Soc would like to thank Master Vinodh Senadeera, without whose guidance and direction, this play would have never even been attempted.
