Ruggerites have mixed results
The
under 17 Rugger team has had an excellent start to their season this
year participating in a western province tournament. Despite the great
jump start the team has faced a few setbacks on their way. Below are
the results of the first round
Zahira College Won 63 – 5
Mahanama College Won 25 – 8
Thurstan College Won 30 – 3
The
team met Wesley College in the Semi Finals and lost by 8 points to 18
due to a bit of careless play although it was obvious the College team
were the better outfit. Adding to their woe the team locked horns
against Royal College for the plate final on the 4th of
July at the Royal College Grounds and again
lost 8 – 0 after a very close match. Lets hope they will bounce back
in the upcoming season matches. The team was captained by N.S.D.S
Wickramatillake.
A friendly bashing
The
College under-17 cricket team recently crushed Mahanama College at the
Big Club Grounds in a friendly game. The visitor made 120 runs all out
and the Thomians replied with a gallant 246 for 3.
Athletes in below par performance
The
Junior National Athletics meet was held at the Sugathadasa stadium on
the 16th, 17th and 18th of June. It
was a disappointing performance by the Thomian team and only S.
Makalanda was able to make a name at the meet by being placed 2nd
in the 100M.
Soccer fever!
The
College first eleven Soccer team after triumphing as Champions in the
divisional and Zonal tournaments have advanced to the Western province
level.
The
Western province encounters started off well with the team beating
Holy Cross College, Kalutara 3 – 0 and then beating St. Mary’s
College, Negombo in the quarter Finals by 2-1.
The
College team had a rough time when the officials of the tournaments
unreasonably ruled out that the Goalkeeper of the team was under-aged,
though he played the whole tournament. Eventually STC lost to St.
Benedict’s College at the Semi Finals. The team came 4th in
the tournament. |
